Abstract Flowers - Pastel - 6x6

Abstract Flowers – Pastel – 6×6

At the end of Jen Evenhus' workshop,I had a little extra time and another sheet of 6x6 pastel paper. I decided to do this little abstract flower painting with the new method I had just studied. My right hand was hurting from the previous 4 1/2 days of painting in the workshop, so I did this one left handed. It is one of my favorite paintings ever.

Gateway Pastel Artists Member Show

Morning Walk 5 - Pastel - 11x14

Gateway Pastel Artists Member Show

Our group, Gateway Pastel Artists, has a show of their pastel paintings in January and February.  We were honored to have St. Louis' own, Billy O'Donnell http://billyoart.com  for our judge. He said there were a lot of wonderful paintings. Our members just keep getting better!

I was pleased that I won an Honorable Mention with my painting "Morning Walk 5". I had done the painting from a reference photo at a Richard McKinley workshop http://mckinleystudio.com in France. We took a 3 mile morning walk every morning before we stood all day painting.

If you are in the area, come by and see the exhibit/sale at Green Door art gallery, 21 N. Gore Ave., Webster Groves, MO 63119-just outside of St. Louis. The show will be up until February 23, 2018.

I did this small loose pastel from a reference photo I had taken at my Grandson's school. I had went to pick him up when this cute little birdhouse among the tall flowers caught my eye. Everytime I went to pick him up I looked for birds to be nesting in the habitat. I'm sorry to say, the last time I went to pick him up-the birdhouse was gone.

This wonderful scene was in France where I stayed for the Richard McKinley workshop. I would get up early and walk 3 miles before the workshop started. The way the light would hit the grasses and trees was amazing!!

Sitting Pretty – 10×8 – Oil on Panel

This was painted from a photo I took at my friends farm. They had lamas, goats, cats and this peacock. I wanted to chase it to make it's tail so out but I didn't. I settled for painting it instead!

Sweeties – Oil on Canvas – 16×12

This was a storefront in Webster Groves, Missouri. I loved the way it looked at night time with the lamps glowing. I did this nocturne painting of the candy store. Too bad it is gone now. But that is the great thing about paintings, we can capture something to document its history.
