Beginning Drawing Class

Starting with the basics, this class will help you understand about drawing, shape, shading, masses and volume. It will help you draw what you see not what you think you see!  There will be different exercises to help you draw the subject matter in true form.  We will go into shading the simple shapes.

 

Held at Green Door art gallery, 21 N. Gore Ave., Webster Groves, MO  63119 (Near St. Louis, MO)

Castle Rogue Manor

Castle Rogue Manor

Eureka Springs arranged for the artists to paint at the venue Castle Rogue Manor, during the plein air paint out. It is a breathtaking castle that looks as if it appeared straight from of the pages of a storybook. It was designed and built over the course of two decades by creative world traveler Smith Treuer. I had never painted anything like it before. After walking around the property, I decided to focus on the domes. I painted it in pastel on a textured board. The structure was so spectacular. It was so fun to paint!!

I want to thank all the volunteers at ESSA in Eureka Springs for all the hard work and organizing that they did for the Paint Out. I know how hard it is to put on an event. They did a wonderful job!! A Big Thank You!!!

Vacancy – Pastel – 12x9

 

I did this small loose pastel from a reference photo I had taken at my Grandson's school. I went to pick him up when this cute little birdhouse among the tall flowers caught my eye. Everytime I went to pick him up I looked for birds to be nesting in the habitat. I'm sorry to say, the last time I went to pick him up-the birdhouse was gone.

Beginning Painting Workshop

Have you ever wanted to try painting but did not know where to begin or what materials you need? Then this one day workshop is for you! You don't even need to buy any supplies!  You can use the instructor's for a small fee.  

 

In this workshop, you will learn about the different materials available, how to mix colors and the actual application of the paint. There will be some hands on exercises with quick demos of each step. You will be doing these exercises as we go along.   Class size is limited to 8 students.

Cost is $65 with instructor's supplies - $50 using your own supplies

That Kind of Day!

Clear Lake Lily Pads – Oil – 5×5

As I stood outside painting a 5x5 at a recent Winnebago event, I was approached by a lady. She had been walking by and the painting caught her eye. She said, "I would like to buy it!" I explained that I hadn't even finished it yet and asked if she'd like to wait to decide. She replied, "No, I know it's going to be good by what I see so far." I went ahead and sold her the painting, and then finished it up. She picked it up the next day. Later on, she came back. I wondered whether she changed her mind -- but to my delight she simply came back to tell me what her husband thought. She said, "I showed my husband and he said 'boy, she is a professional!" Then, she asked me to paint a similar scene so she could gift it to a friend. This is the kind of day an artist loves to have! I wanted to share this story to encourage my fellow artists, because you never know who will feel moved by your art!
